A Brief History
Our club was conceived in January
1992 - at the very same 'pub' that enjoys our patronage
today-
known at that time as the 'Waterford
Arms Tavern' (today Fitzy's Waterford)
In January 1992 a few of the
'local lads' were downing a few coldies when the ensuing
discussions
turned to GOLF! - most good ideas
are hatched in such conditions- the founding of our golf club
was
no exception. 10 merry men
established the club in conjunction with the Licensee of the time
(Ray
O'Connor) who become the
1st President, Geoff McFarlane took on the roles of
Secretary/Treasurer
and Garth Goodwin was anointed as
Club Captain. Within a few weeks the club was off and
running
with interest being shown by several
other locals.
The first game took place in
February 1992 at the infamous California Creek (Loganholme)
with
a contingent of 18 players
teeing-up. The club soon grew in numbers and we were
consistently
teeing-off 24 to 30 players at each
game. Club membership, at its peak, reached 50 playing
members. These numbers were quite
difficult to accommodate in terms of the time required to get
all
players off the tee together with
the waiting for all players to complete their round and meet for
the
resultant presentations (whilst
membership is not restricted we now look to present 20 - 24
players
at each of our fortnightly events).
Our club acknowledges the earliest efforts and
consistent
discipline of Geoff McFarlane in
setting up and maintaining the fortnightly competitions that
'set-the-
scene' for the Games Calendar we
follow today.
